All Time Power Record Set Wednesday
The TVA on Wednesday had asked customers to cut back on power usage to make sure there was no interruption of power service during the frigid cold, as temps dropped into the single digits Wednesday morning. The TVA is now saying mission accomplished. The TVA says they set a single day record for power usage on Wednesday with 35,319 Megawatts of power used. That amrks the all-time high for power demand in the utility’s 91 year history. The peak period for energy demand coming between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday, with the all-time record set at 9am.
That demand for power broke the record that was set just last year. The TVA says that during the cold weather, they encourage customers to continue to conserve power, but the power grid is just fine. The TVA says they spent $430 million in 2024 to improve its power system.
