Local Volunteer Fire Departments To Receive Grant Money
Several Volunteer Fire Departments will be getting some funds from the state. The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office announced Thursday that 245 Tennessee volunteer fire departments will receive grants totaling $10 million in 2025 through the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program. The grants can be used to purchase firefighting equipment or help meet local matching requirements for federal equipment grants.
Among those fire departments in the area, three of them are in Cocke County. Cosby, Grassy Fork and Parrottsville Fire Departments will be receiving some of that grant money. Others in the area onm the list of those to receive money from the state are English Mountain, Chestnut Hill, White Pine and Dandridge.
According to the state, out of Tennessee’s 21,075 active firefighters, an estimated 12,460 are volunteer firefighters. That accounts for over 59% of the total of those who fight fires in the state of Tennessee.
