Newport Woman Steals Two Cars In One Day

A Newport woman faces charges after stealing two cars in one day. This happened on Friday, starting with Kelly Ellison telling police she had started he Dodge Ram pickup around 9am and went back inside the house. moments later, she heard a loud noise and when she went to investigate, she saw a person in a dark hoodie driving over her neighbors chain link fence, in her truck. Ellison told police that her 9mm handgun and her ID were inside the truck. The vehicle was spotted about 4 hours later hidden behind some bushes on Orchard View Drive. The handgun and Ellison’s ID were found inside.

Then, around 6pm that evening, a report of another vehicle theft on Bullard Drive. the suspect was finally pulled over in the Wal-Mart parking lot and police found 46 year old Stephanie Phillips at the wheel. She appeared to be hallucinating as Phillips told officers she had people chasing her. In her pocketbook, officers found the keys to the Dodge Ram that had been stolen earlier in the day. Phillips admitted to stealing both vehicles. she was arrested and charged with felony theft over $1,000.
