Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault

Newport police arrested a man on Sunday and charged him with assaulting his girlfriend. 25 year old Juan Valdes told police that his girlfriend was having a seizure and he attempted to save her by pulling her out of the car, but he would not give the girlfriend’s name to police. However, police were able to track down the girlfriend who told a much different story. The 34 year old stated that Valdes had accused her of “cheating” on punched her in the eye, knocking her to the ground. Then Valdes got on top of her and put his hands around her neck, restricting her oxygen, to the point she lost consciousness. The victim was finally able to flee to her mother’s house. The victim had a wound below her left eye and had a raspy voice, evidently caused by the attack. Valdes was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
