Change In Hours At Cocke County Driver’s License Office
If you need to renew your driver’s license, Cocke County Clerk Shalee McClure says that hours to do so at the Cocke County Courthouse are changing. The hours where you can get renew your license will now be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. They are closed for lunch from 12:30-1:30. The driver’s license office will now be closed on Wednesday. McClure points out that the County Clerk’s office will remain open from 8am to noon on Wednesday. The reason for the change is a staffing issue.
The Driver’s License renewal office is handling the REAL ID. Starting on May 7, anyone wanting to board a commercial flight in the US, enter a federal building or a nuclear power plant facility will need to have a REAL ID. The REAL ID is a state-issued license, but it meets the minimum security standards specified in the REAL ID Act that was passed by congress in signed into law in 2005 by then President George W. Bush. To obtain a REAL ID you need proof of U.S. citizenship, your social security card and two proofs of Tennessee residency.
