Walters State Looking for New President
Walters State community College is now looking for a new President. Dr. tony Miska has announced his hiring as President of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas , a suburb of Kansas City. Dr. Miska will remain on the job at Walters State till June 30. Under the Tennessee Board of Regents policy, a search process will be initiated, including the appointment of a search advisory committee to lead the process of reviewing candidates and making recommendations for finalists. The search committee will be composed of representatives of the Board of Regents; college faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and of the broader community served by Walter State. The Board of Regents though will ultimately appoint the new President.
Dr. Miska has been the president at Walters State since 2016. In his nine years at the helm, Walters State has built new buildings on the campuses in Sevier county and Greeneville and opened a satellite campus in Newport. Walters State was also named Tennessee’s community college of the year in 2022 and 2023.
