Parrottsville Ruritan Marks Milestone

The Parrottsville Ruritan celebrated a milestone on Saturday night as they marked their 70th anniversary with a dinner. A proclamation from Cocke County honoring the Parrottsville Ruritan was provided by Cocke County Mayor Crystal Ottinger. There was also the reading of a resolution from the state of Tennessee’s General Assembly provided by State Senator Steve Sutherland. The Parrottsville Ruritan was originally started on February 12, 1951 and has been very active in Cocke County…in fact they were instrumental in getting built the current Hwy 321 bridge across the French Broad River….plus have provided the Rural Medical Clinic with the building they are currently housed in. According to president Lynn Fillers the celebration was supposed to be held on February 12th, but due to covid restrictions at the time was moved to this past weekend. Ruritan’s National President Linward Hedgspeth made the drive from Rougemont, NC to attend the dinner and celebration. The Parrottsville Ruritan meets the 2nd Monday of each month at the Parrottsville School and are currently seeking new members.
