TBI Warns Of New Phone Scam
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is warning the public about a new phone scam that involves human trafficking. The TBI says the scammers are using the Tennessee Human Trafficking Hotline and a number with the Metro Nashville Police department to call people and claim to be with the “Nashville Human Trafficking Task Force”. They tell the person being called that their phone number has come up on the phone of a human trafficking victim, and if you want to have your name cleared then you need to pay a certain sum of money. If you receive a phone call like this or something similar, you are advised to simply hang up or ignore the message on your answering machine…but then turn around and call 1-800 TBI FIND and report the call to the TBI.
