Watch Out For Those Snakes!

We are in the midst of Halloween season and Christmas season is just around the corner…but did you know that this is also baby copperhead season. The TVA announcing a warning this week that now through November is the time to watch out for baby copperhead snakes in east Tennessee. They say to watch where you walk, or reach into with your hands if you’re outside hiking or even working in the yard. Baby copperheads are small, blend in very well with fallen leaves and they like to hang out in damp places like logs on the hiking trail…. but have been found in flowerpots in residential yards. TWRA officials say copperhead venom is not very potent and fatalities from its bite are extremely rare, but venomous snake bites have the potential to cause severe tissue damage. The TWRA says that bites from baby snakes like baby copperheads can be more dangerous because they can’t yet control their venom.
