Five Planets Can Be Seen Later This Week

If you are a stargazer…this is a good week for you. On Thursday and Friday of this week, five planets are going to be viewable in the sky. Thursday and Friday mornings about one hour before sunrise, Mars will be prevalent in the southeast sky. The star Antares will be bright as well…and can be mistaken for Mars. If you see two bright objects in the early morning sky, the one to the left is Mars…the other is Antares.

Then 45 minutes after sunset on New Year’s Eve, Friday December 31st…4 planets will be visible in the southwestern sky. Jupiter will be the highest in the sky, then looking down and to the right you will see Saturn…just above the horizon will be Venus the brightest of the planets…and just to the left of Venus…look close and you will see Mercury. It’s not often that you get a glimpse of 4 planets with the naked eye all at one time.
