Cocke County Has Second Highest Unemployment Rate In The State

Unemployment numbers for Tennessee’s counties were released on Thursday, and it shows that unemployment numbers were up in December for almost every county. 87 of the states 95 counties saw an increase in unemployment in December. For Cocke County, that number ticked back up above 5%. In November the unemployment rate had fallen to 4.8%, but in December, there were 760 unemployed in the county putting the unemployment rate at 5.4%…..the second highest in the state. Elsewhere in the area, Greene County’s unemployment rate went up from 3.3 to 3.9%…Grainger County from 3.1 to 3.6%…Hamblen County’s unemployment rate sits at 3.5%…that’s up slightly from 3.2% in November. Jefferson County is at 3.3%…Sevier County also saw a slight increase in unemployment from 2.4 to 2.8%. Perry County once again had the highest unemployment rate and the biggest increase…going from 5.2% in November to 7.9% in December. Williamson County still has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.1%.
