Woman Facing Charges For Tryin To burn Down Home

A Cocke County woman is facing several charges including arson and assault after trying to burn her own house down Monday. It started when Cocke County deputies Tim Snapp and Ricky Holt were dispatched to a mobile home on Lindsay Gap Rd that was on fire. Emergency Management Director Joe Esway was also on hand to assist with the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department. Deputies were advised that 37 year old Crystal Phillips was in the home and refused to come out. When Deputy Snapp tried to get her to leave she refused and stated she was recording everything with the cameras in her eyes. Both Deputy Snapp and Director Esway them attempted to grab Phillips to rewove her, but she fought both men…Snapp eventually used pepper spray on her but she continued to fight. The two men were finally able to get Phillips outside where she continued to resist, kicking one firefighter in the groin and kicking the inside of the patrol car…even after being seat belted in and shackled. Once at the jail, Phillips was placed in a restraint chair where she would them kick another deputy in the face. It was determined that Phillips set the mobile home on fire…the mobile ome was owned by Timmie Hux who allowed Phillips to live there. Crystal Phillips is facing charges of aggravated arson, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. During the struggle, deputy Timm Snapp suffered possible arm and shoulder injuries.
