Shoplifter Swallows Baggie Of Drugs

Police were called to Dollar Tree in Newport regarding a shoplifter Tuesday evening. 33 year old Emily Hylton had crammed nearly $190 worth of merchandise into her purse intending to walk out. Police also found cut straws and syringes associated with drug use in her purse as well…along with small empty baggies with residue. While talking with police Hylton began sweating profusely and stated she could not see. Hylton then told officer Joshua Shelton that she had swallowed a baggie of fentanyl when she saw police and got scared. Officer Shelton immediately called for EMS who rushed Hylton to the Newport Medical Center. She was later discharged and was taken into custody charges with theft of less than $1,000, public intoxication and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
