Scammers At It Again

Scammers are at it again. Some citizens have called the Cocke County Sheriff’s office saying that someone from the sheriff’s department has called them saying that person has missed jury duty and must pay a fine. The sheriff’s department reminds you that this is a scam. The sheriff’s department will not call you about jury duty, that is handled by the Circuit Court Clerk. Most everything with jury duty is done via mail, not by phone. The people on the other end of this scam will use actual sheriff’s department employee’s names to make their calls sound more legitimate. But, this is a scam. If you have one of these calls, simply hang up and most of all do not send money to anyone.
