Legalized Marijuana Dead In TN For 2022
A bill that would have legalized recreational marijuana in the state is now dead for this legislative session. The bill’s sponsor, representative Bob Freeman a democrat from Nashville, pulled that bill from consideration on Wednesday. That means there will be no legalization of recreational marijuana in 2022. Freeman says he may bring the bill back up for consideration in 2023. Several states around Tennessee have recently legalized marijuana use in their states, but Tennessee legislators have been reluctant to make that move. Freeman’s bill would have instructed the Departments of Agriculture and Health to set up the operations overseeing marijuana in the state.
Both departments opposed the bill as well as Governor Bill Lee’s Office and the Department of Safety. A bill that would legalize medical marijuana recently passed a subcommittee in the house and is now heading to the full House Health committee for debate.
