Sevier County Wildfire Now Over 3700 Acres
The Hatcher Mountain wildfire in Sevier County has continued to grow in size. That fire is now at over 3700 acres burned. Well over 100 structures have been destroyed during this fire that began on Wednesday morning. Officials do not know how many of the structures burned are private residences or rental cabins. Over 11,000 homes have been evacuated in that area of Sevier County. That fire is now about 50% contained.
But…That fire has now spawned a second fire near Seymour at the Sevier/Blount County line. That is called the Millstone Gap fire and it is now at 650 acres. Fire crews are now fighting that fire as well in Sevier County. Helicopters continue to do airdrops onto both fires.
Donations for fire victims are being taken at the Sevier County Fairgrounds. Hours to drop off items are 9-5 today and 1-5 over the weekend. Donations can also be made through the website mountaintough.org.
