Truck Runs Into Motel Room

Police were dispatched Saturday night to the Family Inn on Cosby Hwy after a truck ran into a motel room. A witness stated that 41 year old Luther Webb was trying to hotwire a 1997 blue Ford Ranger pickup in front of Room 121. The truck started, but was in gear and lurched forward driving itself through the window of the motel room and pinning Webb between the truck and the motel room air conditioner. Webb was in that position when police arrived. Webb was transported via First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center heliport where he was then airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. The Family Inn estimates the damage to the motel room to be in the neighborhood of $15,000.
