Hamblen County Woman Falls Victim To Apartment Scam
A Morristown woman reported to police that she had been scammed out of a substantial amount of money. 18 year old Leanne Henry of Russellville stated that she had seen an ad for an apartment for rent on Shields Ferry Road. She stated she contacted the number on the ad and was told to go to Wal-Mart and send that party $600 for the rent. Ms. Henry paid the $600 to the man, who then asked for more money to be paid through “game” cards. Henry stated she knew at that time this was a scam. Turns out the apartment she was sending money for was not even available for rent. The person she wired the money to was found to be an Edward Patterson in Bayonne, NJ. Police continue to investigate that case.
