Newport City Council Approves Martine Street Property
It was a busy night for the Newport City Council who tackled a large agenda. One of the top items on that agenda last night was the approval of a resolution to removed 30 feet from the property at 834 Martine Street and make it a part of 833 Cosby Hwy and zone that as commercial. Firehouse Subs will be locating to 833 Cosby Hwy and needed the extra 30 feet of space for their parking lot. The City Council also received the good news that their annual audit came back clean…making it the 6th straight year that the city has had a clean audit. The council last night also voted to retain the auditing firm of Brown, Jake & McDaniel.
The city administrator’s contract was extended for three more years and the council also accepted a bid for a new excavator for the Newport Street Department.
