Operation Slow Down Starts Next Week
Start watching your speed when you’re driving. Next week, Tennessee will be part of a 5 state operation to get motorists to slow down. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office says that Operation Southern Slow Down is coming next week. It will run from July 18-24 in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. The campaign was formerly known as Operation Southern Shield.
Operation Southern Slow Down entails concentrated efforts by local officers and state troopers to stop speeding vehicles along interstates and highways in those states. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office says Speeding drivers are almost three times more likely to be involved in fatal or serious-injury crashes. Speeding increases the risk of losing control of your vehicle and threatens the safety of everyone around you. The goal of Operation Southern Slow Down is to make sure that everyone gets home safely.
