Man Arrested For Drug Possession
Police were called to Wal-Mart in Newport Wednesday evening about a man slumped over in a car. Witnesses stated that the man nearly fell out of the car. Police found 43 year old Scott Shelton was the individual slumped at the wheel. Shelton was unsteady on his feet and was placed into custody for public intoxication. Officer Jordon Douglas could clearly see drug paraphernalia in the car, which gave cause for a search. That search produced a small plastic baggie that was sticking out of a cigarette lighter plus that contained a gray powdery substance believed to be heroin weighing approximately .8 grams. Other officials also located several needles, a plastic baggie with white powder residue, a smoked joint inside of an Altoids tin, plus a metal makeshift pipe for smoking narcotics. Shelton was charged with schedule I drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
