Newport Man Run Over By Car

A Newport man was sent to the hospital Monday after he was run over by a car. 49 year old Alfred Kelly told police he was traveling westbound on Hwy 25/70 just before Meadow Road and was in the slow lane. He stated he did not see 63 year old Allen Johnson standing in the middle of the slow lane until he hit him. Mr. Johnson suffered a laceration to his head and road rash on his stomach and legs and could not respond to officer’s questions. Mr. Johnson was transported via ambulance to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. His condition is not known. Alfred Kelly was not cited in the accident.
