Hartford Man Arrested for Pointing Gun At Woman
A Hartford man was arrested on Monday after he pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend. Starla Jones of Pigeon Forge told police that she received a text from her ex-boyfriend Lars Opshal on New Year’s Eve saying that he was going to pile all her belongings outside and set them on fire, then kill her animals. Jones says she decided to drive to Hartford and retrieve her belongings. She claimed that when she arrived Opshal came out to the car pointing a gun at her then getting her out of her car and into the home where he held her at gunpoint on a couch for 4 hours. She stated she was finally able to get away but waited till Monday to call the Cocke County Sheriff’s office to report the incident. Monday, deputies went to Opshal’s home where he admitted to having a firearm and pointing it at Jones on Saturday. He claims that an argument did happen but that he did not hold her at gunpoint for 4 hours. However since he admitted to pointing the gun at Jones, Opshal was arrested for aggravated assault. Deputies found a 9mm SKKY handgun with one round in the magazine located in Opshal’s bedroom.
