Man Arrested For Extortion

A Newport man has been arrested and charged with extortion. Police say that 24 year old Dannion Niles reached out to a 48 year old man with a friend request on facebook. Once the friend request was accepted, Niles then threatened to tell that man’s wife about alleged adultery unless the victim paid Niles $500. The victim, who we are not naming, showed police messages from Niles saying “tik-tok” and how much time the victim had to come up with the cash. Police went to Niles’ residence where he admitted to sending the messages. He was taken into custody at that time, he was also wanted on a probation violation.
