Hawkins County Man Arrested For Murder

A Hawkins County man has been arrested and charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing his uncle…from Newport. Hawkins County deputies were called to a home in Surgoinsville around 4am this morning. At that home, 25 year old Cody Jackson told deputies that he had shot and killed his uncle, 56 year old Billy Ray Jones who is from Newport. Jones’ body was found dead in a nearby camper, dead from a single gunshot wound. Jackson was immediately taken into custody charged with first degree murder. He is being held in the Hawkins County jail without bond. He is due to appear in court Monday.
