Newport Rescue Squad Assists In Finding Missing Woman

A Jefferson County woman reported missing Wednesday afternoon was found Thursday in an area near her home in New Market. 71 year old Sharon Looney had been last seen around 2pm Wednesday. Thursday afternoon, Ms. Looney was spotted by a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter that was involved in the search. The chopper pilot was able to lead personnel…including members of the Newport rescue Squad that were involved in the ground search. Looney was hungry, thirsty, and suffering from exposure after being out in being in freezing temperatures overnigfht. Rescue personnel say that she was in good health otherwise. Ms. Looney was transported to the Jefferson County Memorial hospital for treatment.
