East Tn Lawmakers React Differently to Trump Verdict

When word broke last night about the conviction of former President Donald Trump, it did not take long for reactions to start coming out. One of those reacting was current US Representative for the First District, Diana Harshbarger. The republican congresswoman released a statement that said in part

“”Today is a heartbreaking day for our beloved nation. The conviction of President Trump is an absolute travesty and a stain on our justice system. The Biden administration and the radical left have crossed a line. They have weaponized our legal system in a desperate attempt to prevent President Trump from returning to the White House. This is not justice; this is political persecution.”

On the other side of the spectrum, Knoxville Democrat Gloria Johnson, who is attempting to unseat Marsha Blackburn in the US Senate said in part “Today’s verdict affirms that no one is above the rule of law, not even former presidents. Donald Trump made a choice and he chose to engage in criminal activity over and over again, and now he’s facing the consequences for the first time in his life”

Donald Trump’s lawyers say they will appeal his conviction as soon as possible.
