Lawmakers Try To Head Off Corruption
A bill passed by the Tennessee State Legislature during their last session was passed in hopes of heading off another scandal like the one that recently happened with the Tenenssee Department of Corrections. In that incident, a high official at the department of corrections passed along confidential information to one of the companies vying to provide mental health treatment for prisoners…that official then received a VP post with that company named Centurion.
Under this new bill which passed unanimously a state employee involved in procuring a contract with a company cannot take a job with a company bidding on that project until 2 years after a contract ends…or for a year after they quit their job with the state. A violation of this new rule will result in a class A misdemeanor.
