Arrest Made In Cocke County School System Threat
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office has arrested a 13 year old girl in connection with a threat against Cocke County Schools last week. On Thursday, December 8th, a post was made on social media threatening violence against Cocke County Schools on Friday December 9th or Monday December 12th. That social media post led to many frantic parents and sent the Cocke County Sheriff’s office trying to tamp down panic on social media as claims were flying across the internet that were not based on fact. The sheriff’s department was tasked with that along with trying to apprehend a real shooter who was alluding police on Friday.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the sheriff’s office began looking into the social media post that threatened violence and that investigation led them to charge a 13 year old juvenile girl on Wednesday. That 13 year old girl is charged with “Threats of Mass Violence”. The girl appeared in juvenile court Wednesday and was transported to a juvenile detention center. The sheriff’s office says since the accused is a juvenile, no further information will be released at this time. Sheriff CJ Ball commended his officers and school resource officers for putting the community at ease and he says the sheriff’s office obligates themselves to keeping children and staff of the Cocke County school system safe.
