Big Things For Cocke County Softball
BIG THINGS ARE COMING FOR COCKE COUNTY SOFTBALL. FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, LADY RED SOFTBALL COACHES, PLAYERS, PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS HAVE BEEN WORKING TOWARD THE GOAL OF BUILDING AN INDOOR SOFTBALL FACILITY. WITH THIS FACILITY, COCKE COUNTY GIRLS, INCLUDING BOTH HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAMS WILL BE ABLE TO WORK ON HITTING AND PITCHING YEAR ROUND, REGARDLESS OF WEATHER. HEAD COACH, DANNY HARTSELL SAID “ AS COACH, I BELIEVE THIS FACILITY WILL ELEVATE OUR SOFTBALL PROGRAM TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND SHOW THAT COCKE COUNTY CARES ABOUT ITS YOUTH”. HE GOES ON TO SAY THAT HE THINKS IT WILL HELP GET MORE GIRLS INVOLVED IN SPORTS AND THAT SOFTBALL IS A GATEWAY TO POST HIGH SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES. THE NEW INDOOR SOFTBALL FACILITY WILL BE LOCATED NEAR THE SOFTBALL FIELD AT COCKE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF SEVERAL DONORS, THEY’VE ALREADY RAISED $20,000 TOWARD THE COST OF THE FACILITY, AND TAKEN THE EXCITING STEP OF BREAKING GROUND. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IS STILL NEEDED TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT. LADY RED PARENT VOLUNTEERS KATIE HURST PROFFITT AND TABITHA HARTSELL HAVE ORGANIZED A SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER AND AUCTION TO HELP RAISE THE REMAINING FUNDS. THIS EVENT IS SET FOR SATURDAY APRIL 2, 5PM AT THE REC CENTER. TICKETS ARE $8, AND AVAILABLE FROM ANY MIDDLE OR HIGHSCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYER OR AT THE LAW OFFICE OF TERRY HURST ON MAIN STREET IN DOWNTOWN NEWPORT.
