Bye Bye Smokies Gets Closer
The fate of Tennessee Smokies baseball in Kodak will probably be decided in the next few months. Last night in Knoxville, the Sports Authority learned that a key agreement…a lease with Boyd Sports could be released in the coming week regarding a new multi-purpose stadium near downtown Knoxville. On November 8th, the Knox County Commission and the Knoxville City Council will meet to discuss that agreement and other forthcoming plans for that stadium. On November 10th the sports authority will vote on an interlocal agreement between it and the city and county. Knox County leaders will then have a first reading of that agreement on November 15th. First votes on the lease agreement and the stadium project will likely be held in December. A financing agreement for the stadium could then be finalized in January. When that happens, it means the death penalty for Smokies baseball at Smokies Stadium in Kodak.
