CCSO Dispatched To Serve Felony Warrants
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies was dispatched to 2639 Timber Lake Drive, in Cosby, Tennessee to serve active felony warrants out of the state of Ohio. The Ohio agency had contacted our dispatch center to have officers serve these warrants. Upon arrival officers made contact with the wife of the suspect, which notified officers that he was inside the home. During the attempted apprehension, male suspect was upstairs of the home and shut the bedroom door, and when officers entered the home and started up the steps to the bedroom, the suspect fired a shot. Officers held their positions and other officers brought in ballistic shields for further protection. Once officers continued up the steps to the bedroom , the suspect fired another shot. After a brief pause, the officers made entry into the bedroom area, they located the suspect to be suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement rendered first aid measures and EMS arrived on scene but the suspect was unable to recover from the gunshot. Tennessee Highway Patrol assisted our deputies on the felony arrest attempt. Cocke County Sheriff’s Office CID responded to the scene to investigate the incident and the investigation is still ongoing. Newport Rescue Squad transported the victim to the Knoxville Forensic Center for an autopsy. No officers were injured during the shooting incident. No others from inside the home were injured as they were all removed prior to law enforcement entry.
