CCSO Responds to Shots Being Fired

Cocke County deputies responded to a call about shots being fired in the Weavers Bend area Sunday night (7/6). According to the sheriff’s department report, Jody Paige and Angela Hicks of Greeneville were camping over the weekend and were packing to leave Sunday night when a Ford Mustang pulled into the area and became stuck in the mud and sand. Paige helped free the car, but the driver then got stuck two more times. When Paige began to leave, the man in the Mustang pulled a gun on him and told him he was not leaving him.

Paige says he then ran back to his own vehicle while shots were fired. Paige and Hicks then fled the area and called for police. 71 year old John Turner of Del Rio has now been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, two counts of Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Possession of a Weapon while Under the Influence. Deputies recovered two guns, a 9mm in Turner’s vehicle and a .32 caliber handgun located in Turner’s pocket.
