Charges Filed Against Owners In Hamblen County Animal Hoarding Case
Charges are being filed against the owners of a home in Hamblen County where animal control officers seized over 180 animals from on Friday night. 184 animals including nearly 70 dogs, 3 cats, along with chickens, rabbits and a goat were taken from the home in what is being called the second worst animal hoarding case ever in Hamblen County. Most of the dogs have been placed with other rescue agencies, but the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society is still in crisis mode. They were at near capacity when this incident occurred. The center is asking for the public’s help in the form of donations of pet food, pet beds, towels, and cleaning supplies. If you would like to help, you can donate monetarily at their website mh-humanesociety.com or you can also drop off donations at their location at 5251 east Morris Blvd in Morristown.
The two women who owned the animals are being charged with misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. The district attorney’s office says the women are not facing the more serious charges of aggravated animal abuse as most of the animals were in relatively good condition. The DA’s office says it is a case of good intentions that got out of hand.
