Checks From A Closed Church Checking Account Cashed In Bybee

A church in Cocke County has told the Cocke County Sheriff’s office that someone is writing checks off a closed checking account. Several individuals with Webb Baptist Church on Wilton Springs Road told the sheriff’s office that checks from the church had recently been cashed at a convenience store on Highway 160. The checks were from June 19 in the amount of $150.00 and vanother check on July 24 in the amount of $200.00. The name on the checks showed them to be made out to a Benjamin Allison. Mary Hannah, the treasurer for Webb Baptist Church says the checks were written on an account with First Union National Bank. She says the church has not used checks from that account in approximately 12 years. Since the checks were not written off of a current account, the church is not out any money.
