City Council Says No Tax Increase For Next Fiscal Year
The Newport City Council met last night at city hall. The council had the second reading of the budget for this next fiscal year which begins on July 1st…the council stressed that budget includes no tax increase for that fiscal year which ends on June 30th, 2023. The council also had the second reading for a proposal to annex what is the old distribution site for Conagra, along with some plots of land along Sierra Road. The new property owner has requested that property be anexxed into the city.
Also last night the council renewed their highway maintanance contract with the Tennessee Department of Safety…that contract has increased to $63,000 for the year.
And…the council had the second reading of a proposal to split a portion of 834 Martine Street off and add that to expand 825 Cosby Hwy…which is zoned for interstate highway business. Firehouse Subs has purchased the building at 825 Cosby Hwy and intends to open a new shop on that site.
