City Of Gatlinburg Keeping Flouride In Water System
The City of Gatlinburg will continue adding fluoride to its drinking water system. Earlier this month, the city sent out a letter to utility customers stating that they were considering removing fluoride from the water and that the Gatlinburg City Commissioners would meet in September to vote on the issue. That letter caused quite the uproar from citizens and health professionals. On Monday, the city of Gatlinburg released a statement saying in part
“After reviewing the feedback from our customers — and receiving strong support from Gatlinburg’s health and dental practitioner community — we believe that maintaining fluoride in the water system is in the best interest of our citizens.”
Fluoride has been added to water systems for decades as it strengthens tooth enamel and can aid in the prevention of cavities.
