Cocke County Inmates Being Housed In Area Counties
When the flood waters hit Friday, they infiltrated the Cocke County jail in the annex building, which backs up to the Pigeon River. Inmates had to be evacuated from the jail. The Cocke County School system lent the sheriff’s office buses to move the inmates. Some of those inmates are now being housed in Sevier and Jefferson counties. Sheriff CJ Ball says that other counties and the Tennessee Correctional Institution have offered their help as well. The sheriff’s office hopes to have more information toward the end of week about the circumstances that surround the inmates visitation and other matters.
The Cocke County Annex building was severely damaged and according to the sheriff’s office, estimates are it could take at least two months before repairs can be completed for that building.
