Cocke County Man Killed In Canton NC UTV Accident

The official report is now out from Haywood County on that accident near Canton NC that claimed the life of a Cocke County man. According to authorities in Haywood County, Mitchell Ryna Ricker of Hot Springs, NC and Danny Jenkins of Newport were driving a utility task vehicle…a UTV…on Saturday morning 2-3 miles up the mountainside from the 3600 block of Old Henson Cove Rd. south of Canton. At about 9:23 am…the UTV went off a road bed and down a steep embankment…flipping the UTV several times. Neither of the men were earing safety restraints and therefore were ejected from the UTV. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The center Pigeon Fire and Rescue, Canton Fire Department, Haywood County Emergency Services, Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, and North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement all responded to the scene. Emergency workers had to face treacherous terrain to retrieve the two bodies.
