Cocke County Man Starts Off New Year By Being Assaulted

The New year did not start off well for a Cocke County man. 63 year old Bobby Burgin of Newport was taken to Newport Medical Center after he claims he was beaten on the side of the road by a man and a woman. Deputies were called to Edwina-Bridgeport Road early Sunday morning about a man injured on the side of the road. Burgin told deputies that he was a passenger in a pickup truck when the truck stopped and Terry Pack of Bridgeport and a female suspect dragged him out of the pickup and began beating him. He was struck in the stomach and on the head several times. When he tried to get away, Burgin claims that Pack and his female accomplice attacked him again. They left him on the side of the road and told him they would be back to kill him. Burgin says one of the two had a firearm but he was not sure which. Warrants for aggravated assault and assault have been issued for Terry Pack. Warrants will be issued for the female suspect once she is identified. Burgin was recovering from his ordeal at the Newport Medical Center.
