Cocke County Senior Center To Receive Grant Funding
The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) has awarded grant funding totaling $5 million to 125 senior centers in the state. One of those is the Cocke County Senior Center. The grant funding will be awarded in amounts from $10,000 to $50,000. The money is to be used for Capital Projects, including building improvements and equipment, along with Marketing, Programming and Activities, plus Routine Operating Expenses…excluding staff salaries.
DDA Commissioner Brad Turner says these grants will ensure that over 100 centers in both rural and urban communities are better equipped to serve our growing senior population with updated equipment, upgraded facilities and engaging programming.
The Cocke County Senior Center is in the Tanner Building at 115 Mulberry Street in Newport and is open Monday through Thursday from 9am-5pm. There are activities and events each day for seniors. You can get more information by following the Cocke County Senior Center on Facebook.
