Colder Temps Could Mean Car Thefts
The temperatures are going to be heading downward this weekend and next week, much colder weather is in store…especially as we get closer to Christmas. With the colder temperatures, Michelle Jones with the Morristown Police Department says that you should resist the temptation to go out and start your vehicle while you then go back inside to the warmth. Last year there were numerous vehicles stolen after people let their cars warm up. Jones says that remote vehicle starters are now widely available where you can leave your car running locked without the key inside. Another option is to have two keys. That way, you can start your car to warm it up, lock it and go back inside…using your second key to unlock your car. She also says to remember to never start your car and leave it running in an enclosed area such as a garage or basement. She says if you do fall victim to vehicle theft it is important that you call authorities immediately so that law enforcement has the information on hand to spot your vehicle.
