Continued Temporary Housing Assistance Available To Disaster Victims
Victims of the recent flood that received two months of FEMA rental assistance, but need more time to plan their recovery, may be eligible for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance. According to FEMA, under the Individuals and Households Program, if you provide the required documents, you may receive rental assistance for another three months and possibly longer, if needed. You can use that rental assistance to rent a house, apartment, manufactured home, recreational vehicle or other dwelling.
To be eligible for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance, first you need to have applied for FEMA assistance and received two months of rental assistance. You must be unable to return to your pre-disaster residence because it was damaged, destroyed or made uninhabitable by the flood and you are unable to pay for housing without assistance. You must also not be receiving temporary housing assistance from any other source. FEMA also requires that you show proof that you are developing a longer-term or permanent housing plan or demonstrate progress toward that plan. You can find out more about this by talking with a FEMA representative at the Disaster Recovery Center or calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362
