Cornhole Game Lands Man In Jail
Two kids playing cornhole on the night of the 4th of July turned into one man being taken to jail. According to Newport police, officers were dispatched to a Newport apartment complex Thursday night. Witnesses told the officers that two boys, ages 12 & 13 were playing a game of cornhole when the boys say 46 year old James Brockwell came up and took over their game. Brockwell, who was intoxicated, threw bean bags at both of the boys and pushed the 13 year old to the ground. He also took one of the bean bags and threw it on top of the apartment building. A man who heard and saw the commotion them came out of his apartment. He asked Brockwell to leave, but instead, Brockwell struck the man in the face. Other witnesses confirmed that chain of events. Brockwell was arrested and has been charged with three counts of assault as well as public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
