Counterfeit Bill Presented To Food City
Newport police were called to Food City East Monday afternoon after a customer reportedly tried to use a counterfeit bill.
Officers were dispatched around 1:20 p.m. on October 20th, where store manager Kimberly Bagent told police that a man attempted to pay with a fake bill. When informed it was counterfeit, the customer used a legitimate bill instead.
The man—later identified as Johnny Wright—had been waiting to speak with officers but left before they arrived. Wright later told police he may have received the counterfeit bill from another store in Newport and didn’t realize it was fake.
Both Wright and the store declined to file a report, and no charges were issued.
