County Budget
On Monday night, the Cocke County Legislative Body passed the county’s 2023-24 budget with no increase in County property taxes. County Mayor Rob Mathis said that we are able to keep the property taxes stable due to the robust growth in our sales tax and hotel/motel tax revenues. The Mayor goes on to say that County officials have worked together to cut costs and find efficiencies wherever possible. He also gave a special thank you to Cocke County residents for supporting local businesses, which helps grow our economy by keeping tax dollars local. Other highlights from the new budget includes a 5% pay increase for County employees and bringing the pay of the Sheriff’s and Fire Departments up to levels competitive with surrounding counties
