Couple Tries To Pass Fake $100 Bill

Police were called to Wal-Mart in Newport after someone tried to pass counterfeit money. An employee told police that a black male and female in their late 20’s had attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase a money card. The employee stated that when she confronted the female about the bill being counterfeit the woman used real currency to purchase the money card. The employee stated the pair then left the store after being told police would be investigating. According to police, the counterfeit bill had been premarked as counterfeit prior to Wal-Mart’s investigation and was obviously counterfeit with small uneven borders as well as the bill being smaller than genuine currency. Newport police are now in custody of that fake bill. The couple that tried to pass the fake bill have not yet been identified.
