CRITICAL BLOOD SHORTAGE

MEDIC Regional Blood Center is reminding people in the area that there is a critical shortage in blood supplies right now in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. MEDIC says that O Positive blood has been at critical levels for weeks now. As well as O Positive, donors are needed for A Positive, A Negative and Platelets are at currently critical low levels. MEDIC says that the blood on shelves now is what will be used in the case of a trauma event and it takes at least 3 days for donated blood to be processed and ready for distribution. MEDIC prefers you make an appointment to give blood as they have limited availability for walk-ins.
