Drive Off Costs Weigel’s $521
Drive-offs have always been a problem for convenience stores and the like that sell gasoline. The term drive-offs is used when someone pumps their gas, then drives off without paying. With the price of gas these days, drive-offs are becoming an increasing headache for stores as those gasoline thieves cut into the stores profit on fuel, which is usually normal at best. Well, there are drive-offs and then there are drive-offs. At Weigel’s on Cosby Hwy in Newport Tuesday, a driver for Super Ego came in to purchase diesel fuel and they turned the pump on for him. The manager then stated that the man filled his truck up and when he came back in to pay for the 130 gallons of diesel fuel he had dispensed…his card was declined. The man told Weigel’s employees he was going outside to call his company to get the purchases authorized but once he exited the store he then drove off leaving the store with an empty sack for payment…loss for Weigel’s in that one drive off…$521
