Driver Charged With Kidnaping And Reckless Endangerment
Three people escaped safely after a man tried to evade police with the three others in the vehicle, two of them being juveniles. Police say they spotted a 1997 Jeep heading southbound on Cosby Hwy going 84 in a 55 mph zone, but reaching speeds of over 90. During the pursuit of the Jeep, the driver went across the median and traveled southbound in the northbound lanes with no regard to other driver’s safety. However, the driver then turned onto Major Burnett Drive, the road to the Guard Armory where he was forced to stop. 23 year old Paul Phillips was arrested at that time. One of the juveniles stated that they pleaded with Phillips to pull over, but he would not. That is when the teen told Philips to turn onto Major Burnett Drive knowing that it would dead end and those in the car could have a chance to get out. Phillips is now charged with three counts of kidnapping and three counts of Reckless Endangerment.
